Placing Substance Over Style

Every time a famous and well-loved website undergoes any kind of makeover, there is usually a loud reaction from those who liked it the way it was, and did not see the need for any change. Whenever Facebook has an overhaul, peoples’ newsfeeds are packed with vitriol and new groups sprouting up that eulogise the previous layout. After a substantial redesign in 2010, the BBC website was attacked by user groups, as well as in the media.

Adding Fresh Content

In retrospect, it is easy to see why changes were necessary. The internet seems to be constantly evolving, and in its current incarnation, embedded video content, as well as instant feedback and comment seem to be flavours of the month. Hampshire web design studios are always looking for fresh new ways to deliver such dynamic content.

RSS Doesn’t Always Need to be Plain

With RSS feeds increasingly popular, there are numerous innovative new ideas in the pipeline to jazz up these news feeds. Traditionally, RSS feeds always contained plain text, which were either embedded within a site, or read on smartphones, tablets, or e-readers. Programmes such as Instapaper of Readability strip all but the text from web pages in order to deliver content to such devices. With the increased programming power of devices such as the iPhone, programs are appearing that can create a rich lush webpage from an RSS feed.

Substance Over Style

Whereas people may coo over pretty websites, it is worth remembering that people will only return if the content is up to scratch!
